Machine learning is currently being actively utilized across numerous sectors and industries, showcasing its virtually limitless possibilities. Here, we provide an overview of existing applications and categorize them into four distinct types.

Machine learning is a method that allows software to learn autonomously without direct programming. Rather than coding numerous “if this, then that” conditions, machine learning identifies trends within data and formulates an algorithm that can recognize, forecast, recommend, optimize, or categorize. This method is a remarkably effective tool that empowers software to execute intelligent functions that were predominantly performed by humans until recently. As a result, it can innovatively automate various business and industrial processes, customer service operations, and other data-centric tasks.

Though machine learning is not a recent innovation—it traces its roots back to academic research in the late 1960s and early 1970s—it is now routinely employed by large enterprises. The recent surge in (big) data availability, enhanced processing capabilities, and the emergence of machine learning platforms have allowed this rapidly advancing technology to reach maturity. Consequently, machine learning is now applicable to organizations of all sizes.

Machine learning applications can be divided into four categories. For further insights, read the complete article on Emerce  (in Dutch).
